The babysitter liked that and if we were quiet she would let us stay downstairs to watch it! I think that was badminton night. My Mum quite liked Triangle, a soap set on board a North Sea ferry. I can't possibly imagine why that one got shelved!
The ones you list for your dad were my grandparents favourites. I used to get to watch westerns on a Saturday morning and then they sat and waited for the pools results. My Dad loved westerns. All westerns. He also liked The Sweeney and Dixon of Dock Green, Z Cars and the like. My mum liked the Onedin Line, Van derValk, Triangle, Bergerac, Doctor Killare (??) Edited to add The Brothers. I had forgotten about it until reading further up the thread.
My Nan loved Liberace and the wrestling on a Saturday, on the sport programme.
The interesting thing about it, was that the wives got on perfectly well, & were sensibleGlen Frogger is a huge fan of Love Thy Neighbour.

Wikepedia suggests the programme was a rather ambitious idea..
"Unfortunately the plan was revealed to be flawed almost as soon as shooting began. Shot largely in the North Sea, the inclement weather made the exterior scenes appear gloomy and dull, and far from glamorous. In making the first episode Kate O'Mara had to endure a scene in which she sunbathes topless on a clearly freezing deck."

Oh gawd, I remember having to ensure that, it was one of the grimmest TV programmes ever*I cannot remember if she liked When the Boat Comes In.
Nothing like a bit of reassurance .(she's still alive btw, which is good).
I remembered the title sequence, and thought "I remember that programme"; having just watched series one, episode one I was correct in remembering the title sequence but the programme itself rang no bells at all.Rather depressingly, 'Get Some In!' is being repeated on one of the (Virgin) cable channels
