A lot of the programmes, in my teens, that I particularly liked involved women undressing...
...Wednesday Play, Play for Today, Bouquet for Barbed Wire...
They would harrumph and either go to bed or switch over to Ludovic Kennedy on Panorama

My Dad loved westerns. All westerns. He also liked The Sweeney and Dixon of Dock Green, Z Cars and the like. My mum liked the Onedin Line, Van derValk, Triangle, Bergerac, Doctor Killare (??) Edited to add The Brothers. I had forgotten about it until reading further up the thread.
My Nan loved Liberace and the wrestling on a Saturday, on the sport programme.
The ones you list for your dad were my grandparents favourites. I used to get to watch westerns on a Saturday morning and then they sat and waited for the pools results.

The babysitter liked that and if we were quiet she would let us stay downstairs to watch it! I think that was badminton night.

Wikepedia suggests the programme was a rather ambitious idea..

"Unfortunately the plan was revealed to be flawed almost as soon as shooting began. Shot largely in the North Sea, the inclement weather made the exterior scenes appear gloomy and dull, and far from glamorous. In making the first episode Kate O'Mara had to endure a scene in which she sunbathes topless on a clearly freezing deck."

Soap operas are easy. No matter what the setting, they just consist of depressing people shouting at each other.
