Spokes. I mean are they really necessary? They may look pretty but what purpose do they serve? I have yet to hear one good argument for the inclusion of spokes in the construction of any wheel and as of now will be removing all my spokes to lessen drag and weight. We all know that weight on wheels is equal to the weight times the speed of travel squared and then cubed. Which travelling at 10 miles an hour a single spoke is exerting a weight similar to that of a small planet. Let's stop this folly and get rid of spokes for good. They are just a fad.

A key thing for me was providing chainsets with real-world gearing. I had a tourer back in 1984 that came with 48/36 and I changed to a 34, and that was considered "easy" gearing. On a road bike 42 was a "small" ring. I now have 34 small on my road bike, and my tourer is something like a 24 or 26 I think (MTB gears).

Small titanium components for weight saving seem to be a bit pointless really

A mate of mine pays over the odds for crap like that, yet avoids hills like the plague. Yes your bike may well be super efficient with its skinny tyres, splashes of carbon fibre and the odd titanium washer, but your legs are crap because you don't push them.

It's a bit like me buying a hand made electric guitar, hoping it'd make me a better guitar player, it didn't... I'm still pants.

Also hard saddles with padded pants. Why not just have softer saddles and normal pants?

crikey.... I was starting to think i was alone in the radical idea of having a padded saddle instead of padded panties... we are clearly not 'proper' cyclists

Agree on Di2 and 10/11 speed cassettes. Simple idea, get the engineers to develop something we can sell, which uses batteries, may be heavier than cables, wears out chains, wears out sprockets. All of which means we sell more to a gullible "must have the latest" public. Who have probably not been riding long and thus feel they need to have the latest and "best". Result!
A bit like mobile phones that have more function than 95% of people will ever need or use. In a saturated market, you can only sell "upgrades".
