If I recall correctly you work for yourself?
Correct, but surely that should not stop me offering advice.
I have also employed many people over the years and Always hoped for honesty.

I have in the past too but that's usually when the company know I'm not happy and am looking to leave already. I'm not at that stage with this company and if I chose not to leave (if I get offered the job that is) then I worry that saying I have an interview could count against me later.I would tell the truth, have done so in the past - ime they want to know.
You'll not get paid, of course, you could maybe offer to do overtime another day.
That's what I've decided to do. I'm glad I asked the question.Pulling a sicky for an interview is a no-no. If someone did that to me I'd make damn sure their notice period was as tough as I could reasonably make it
Request a day's unpaid leave, citing a personal appointment. No reasonable employer would refuse with sufficient notice
If an employee wants a day off without pay that is their right. They don't have to give a reason.
Of course you can have a day off fireman Sam...we will put the fire out tomorrow!!If an employee wants a day off without pay that is their right. They don't have to give a reason.

If you an automatic right then you don't need authorisation, obviously. That doesn't mean you have to give an explanation, just that someone needs to authorise your request.
Now you are asking for a day off? What if they said no? Clearly your employer could do without you. Have you ever thought that doesn't apply to all employees. Let's say .......teachers for instances.
Well, he did until he sacked himself for rudely demanding a day off.
And would you automatically have given them a day off?Correct, but surely that should not stop me offering advice.

No need to get bitchy. What's the point of authorising it if you don't have to give a reason. Its pointless as you're telling him not asking.Sheesh, you really are dense aren't you.
It was meant sarcastically. You do have to think of the effect on others of taking a random day off. I assume teachers think of their pupils before doing so.You might like to acquaint yourself with the contents of the 'Burgundy Book' which deals with the pay and conditions of teachers and agreed with the main teaching unions. You then need to aquaint yourself with which Local Education Authorities have more generous terms before you make uninformed assertions.![]()
For whom? If you didn't get the job would your employer promote you or waste money sending you on a course?Surely honesty is still the best policy.
