Pulling a sicky for an interview is a no-no. If someone did that to me I'd make damn sure their notice period was as tough as I could reasonably make it

Request a day's unpaid leave, citing a personal appointment. No reasonable employer would refuse with sufficient notice

I would tell the truth, have done so in the past - ime they want to know.
You'll not get paid, of course, you could maybe offer to do overtime another day.
I have in the past too but that's usually when the company know I'm not happy and am looking to leave already. I'm not at that stage with this company and if I chose not to leave (if I get offered the job that is) then I worry that saying I have an interview could count against me later.

That's what I've decided to do. I'm glad I asked the question.

Now you are asking for a day off? What if they said no? Clearly your employer could do without you. Have you ever thought that doesn't apply to all employees. Let's say .......teachers for instances.

You might like to acquaint yourself with the contents of the 'Burgundy Book' which deals with the pay and conditions of teachers and agreed with the main teaching unions. You then need to aquaint yourself with which Local Education Authorities have more generous terms before you make uninformed assertions. :okay:

Correct, but surely that should not stop me offering advice.

I have also employed many people over the years and Always hoped for honesty.
And would you automatically have given them a day off?
As you are not in the position of being an employee I think you may not be seeing it from their prospective. What would you think of someone who said I want to go to interview for another job? The first thing coming into your mind would be finding a replacement. In a weeks time he said I didn't get the job you would be thinking he is going to look for another job.

It was meant sarcastically. You do have to think of the effect on others of taking a random day off. I assume teachers think of their pupils before doing so.
