Few things after a few too many beers could beat a good old-fashioned pub singer in a Vic Reeves stylee, but on the few occassions I have been in a pub recently the 'band/singer' have tended to be quite good and have lacked the slurred lyrics and dodgy key changes.

Are there any 'decent' pub singers still doing the rounds?

When talk of pubs always seems to lead to talk of cask ales and the organic food menu I think you may be barking up the wrong tree on Cycle Chat by asking about pub singers who do the WMC circuit.

The first person to mention Folk music should get a thrashing as well.

it's a long tike since I've seen singers and accompanists playing a keyboard murder some well known songs.

I can't say that I miss them.

I think folk are more discerning and are driven away from the pubs that employ them.

Buy surely they have their place vernon? Too much of 'good' stuff ruins the reality of life....

I do enjoy them in a perverse kind of way when I encounter them. I just wouldn't go out of my way to see them. In fact the chance encounters are always enjoyed.

Impromptu pub sing songs are also largely absent from the current scene. There used to be several pubs in my old home town of Darlington where the entire bar or lounge would break into song covering a who range of music genres. Sadly the pubs in question have been restyled or closed.

Is there a special place where they buy those machines that play music and no vocals ? We used to go to the Seagull in Burnham-on-Sea and there'd be a different one in every night.

Ah, Peters and Lee.... surely they can't still be going.

If someone says 1-2, 1-2 loudly with just a hint of feedback, it's time to leave.

I haven't heard anyone sing in a pub for decades though in my climbing days we used to do a lot especially in the PYG.

But I'm not worried because programmes like X Factor will produce a whole new generation of also-ran singers for pubs, clubs and cruise ships.

Yes, I hear them all the time, it is called KARAOKE!!

To be fair, must of the pubs I frequent usually have some decent bands playing, so that I don't have to leave in too much of a hurry!
