that would be me . but a dive buddy of mine makes me look slooow . he can do 2 pints in the time I have done 1 and I can do 2 in the time most others do one.
The Aged P in his 50's and 60's was a four pints an hour man. And was regarded as a slow drinker on our regular trips back to the NE.

Spoilt? Me? You betcha.
They are just the nearest ones. If I get on the bike there's another five or six within the town boundary anyone would be happy to have as a local. And once out in the countryside...

... blessed I am!

Time you enjoyed wasting was not wasted
Does anyone ever use pubs when they are out cycling? During periods of warmer weather I occasionally like to stop at a pub in the countryside whilst out on my bike. One of my favourites is the Farmers' Arms on the Leeds-Liverpool canal in Burscough.

The second photo shows the view looking in the opposite direction from that in the first, i.e. the view you would get from that picnic table

I love visiting such places and losing myself in thought in the peaceful countryside, which is perhaps one of the reasons why my cycling has never caused me to lose as much weight as it might have done

An old drinking pal of mine would tend to drink a bit slowly but would stack up a pint each time someone bought a round, and indeed when it was his round. He'd then have maybe 2 -1/2 pints stacked up by closing time and proceed to drink in 10 minutes

I know them nearly all from Marylebone high St through to Paddington, my mates uncle managed the Prince Regent back in the day he had a fantastic selection of butter or cheese dishes, the old Wallace head, the Duke of Wellington on Crawford St, t he museum thst is the Windsor Castle, The Turners Arms where ex wrestler Joe Cornelius had Christmas everyday, the Wargrave Arms where I did shifts as a midnight barman, Duke of York where we often saw the sunrise, The Heron for a quiet half, well pint really, The Monkey Puzzle, et all

We must catch up on the day we of yore!

Being in 'leafy' Bromley.. the clientele in the local Wetherspoons hostelries are more often then not pretty good. Compared to the one in Greenwich near to my work, which looks like a drop in center for some of the dregs of society.

My eldest works in a 'spoons at the mo, not in a particularly nice area. Drop in centre yep, dregs of society is a tad harsh for a good many of the daily clientele tho. There's some very regular and hardened imbibers go in, some hanging round waiting for the place to open at 8am to start, but in general they've got an unfortunate story that lead them there, driven workers who suddenly find themselves redundant, people who's family have split or they've found themselves alone later in life and haven't coped as well as others might and have found a new way of life that is not just staring through the bottom of a pint glass or 10 but being among people that talk to them and befriend them and give them a reason not to take a warm bath with a cutthroat razor ( a direct quote from one of the longest serving barflys to son's girlfriend). Sad people but not dregs necessarily.

I guess you haven't been to the Greenwich 'Spoons then.
