Leytonstone - Walnut tree seems to have taken the place of Leytonstone house Mental health unit, and Baxters court in Hackney similar for the unit at Homerton.

which is a pity as they have some great guest beers

Well this is the thing. Wetherspoon's do all the right things but due to the low prices does attract more then their fair share of ne'er do wells.

Being in 'leafy' Bromley.. the clientele in the local Wetherspoons hostelries are more often then not pretty good. Compared to the one in Greenwich near to my work, which looks like a drop in center for some of the dregs of society.

Whats not to like at the Gate Clock ?
It's next to the dodgy estate, got the tube underneath, Maccy Dees next door, and over the road you really are Up The Creek !

(Got to admit, never actually dared to go there though)

Sounds like a good old traditional boozer, one with a constant hint of unease in the atmosphere.

We get "locals' discount" in the Hole in Bowness, which means that we can buy two pints and get change from a fiver and dirty looks from the other customers. Other than that it is the Swan in Ulverston, drinking at home is all very well if you just want to drink, but a big part of going to a pub is the social life.

a big part of going to a pub is the social life.
Round here it's the default message board.

Typical conversation at Gany towers:

Mr G: I need to go up the pub.
Me: Good god, why? You've never been there before. [we are a satirical household]
Mr G: Oh well I have to speak to Don
Me: He's got a telephone.
Mr G: Well some of the other cricket people might be there too
Me: Just try not to drink any of that nasty beer while you're there
Mr G: ok just a swift half so they don't think I'm peculiar

NB in our house the expression "a swift half" = 2 pints. No more, no less. Every time.

I went in when it first opened. It had very odd 1970's decor.
Seems to get quite busy in the evening.

Surely a "swift half" is three pints, one over two.
I see what you did there. I've just consulted Mr G and he says it can sometimes be only one pint. He says this, but I've never seen it.

A couple of fantastic pubs in Paddington, one has expressed a desire to host breakfast after a night ride, room for about 80 bikes and riders!

Less than £2 a pint, any houses for sale near you?

I have just remembered we had a short break in Durham a couple of years ago, during the Olympics, and found a pub there, at one end of a bridge over the River Wear just outside the city centre. I was charged around £3.00 for a pint of Sam Smith's and half of lager for my wife and thought I they forgot to charge for the lager, but when I asked the price of the drinks individually, they said the Sam Smith's was £1.60......RESULT!!!

T'would have been The Swan and Three on Elvet Bridge.

A manager there a few years ago told me it was strict brewery policy to charge the same low prices everywhere.
