It was definitely your common thorn that had gone through the tyre and burst the tube.

I would expect the M+ to stand up to a thorn.

I wouldn't mind the occasional puncture, but the problem is the tyres are so hard to get on that if I ever got a puncture I'd need to phone a taxi!

I ran across all sorts of stuff on the m+... without issue....bad luck I guess....its your turn for the visit from the puncture fairy

Ha ha I know, probably good for another 3000 miles!!!

Cleaned, polished and lubed my bike - might just make it a shiney, nice smelling showpiece now ^_^

Fast and careful!
Couple of years ago , on a defy had 3 broken spokes one after another and trouble with the hub , I was given the option of trading the value of the wheel against another set so I did , and got a set of mavics, then you just get broken rims !

I'm considering going with some hand built wheels to replace the ritchey pro discs on my cx

Please bear with me, I'm just musing generally, without consulting Jobst Brand / the sainted Sheldon or anything. Do disc-braked wheels need to be built more robustly than rim-braked? It seems to me that applying braking force near the hub, when it's the tyres / rims that want to keep moving, puts a lot of stress on the spokes (pardon misuse of terms - distinct lack of formal engineering background). Maybe the weight saved by potentially using lighter rims (no need for depth of material for braking surface) needs to be offset with heavier duty spokes, e.g. single butted Sapim Strong or similar.

Have put the wheel into shop to get fixed.

500 miles, 3 months, not great mileage.

Month 1: broken spoke on front.
Month 2: 3 broken spokes on rear.

2/3 months have had broken spokes!

The LBS said they will fix and true, may be covered by Whyte under warranty, may be wear and tear and I'd need to pay.

I'm thinking about telling them to send both wheels back to Whyte as I can't continue at this rate! There must surely be something wrong with the wheels - most people would just give it up if this kept happening every month!

What would you do?

I'd stick to your guns and demand an acceptable wheelset or a full refund...either the wheels supplied are faulty or, just as likely, they have been trying to build down to a pricepoint while keeping the overall bike weight attractive. Possibly it comes down to what they say:-

strong, cheap, light - pick two you won't get all three - well actually a decent set of handbuilts can be had from somewhere like Spa Cycles for a reasonable price - I've never had a spoke issue on a handbuilt but you don't get the same sort blingy matchingness without spending more
