I’ve seen footage of the same type of design being tested on military vehicles to avoid ambush stinger attacks. They’re still under development but initial testing looks quite positive.

Have they been tested on wallets yet?

Surely with today's scientific abilities they can come up with a solid rubber tyre textured to certain pressures. This has been mentioned before, but I'd be surprised if they couldn't. For cycles too.

my bike as a kid had solid rubber tyres. The one thing I remember though was they were not a nice shape to corner on, not like a motorbike tyre but more angular.. didn't work well.

So did mine, rock hard they were. But nowadays different pressures where the rubber gives like a neumatic isn't beyond possible I would have thought?

'They' have come up with one already, greentyre (as noted in this post's subject header). Their tyres are manufactured in three different pressure ratings, a cross-sectional view of the tyre shows similar to an aero bar ( but unfortunately not quite as tasty!! ).

Here is their broad selection: http://www.greentyre.co.uk/bike.html

Having read good & bad points about Greentyre tyres it was interesting to see a different design approach. As with any new product, the price will [initially] be high but decrease as sales eventually increase. I’d definitely buy a pair to try on my Marin mountain bike!

My girlfriend could do with a set of them. I cannot believe how many flat tyres she gets. I bet I can change a tube quicker than anyone else on here ^_^
