Punishment for not cycling to work

I have had a shower then had to use most of a toilet roll as a towel.

It was either that or Limbo dancing under the electric hand dryer.

Been there, done that. It’s particularly poor if you do it the other way round, and cycle in, with all your locker keys and the like left in the car at home. If your workwear is locked away, it means you have to do a 12hr shift, wearing cycling kit, and road shoes with cleats.

I paid the idiot Tax of £40 for a white shirt and a pair of black trousers from the M&S just up from work. Luckily I cycle in wearing steel toe cap boots ( Kevlar actually as it’s light) so footwear was sorted.

Nothing as blameworthy as swapping vehicles , just utter stupidity for me not checking before I rode in ...

Touch wood at my current place I've realised as I've went to hang up the non existent towel that I've left it in the changing room or I think I'd be forced into a limbo under the hand drier too.

Riding a bike to work seems to have become a big deal logistically these days. When I started work, before I could drive, I used to ride to work as did quite a few staff. No-one would dream of having special "cycling gear". They just rode to work in the clothes they worked in - and because no-one was trying to break any speed records they tended not to get too sweaty either. They just put their work gear on, rode in at a moderate pace, parked their bikes and started work in the same clothes.

Mind, I'm on a zero hour contract, could say no to any shift ... I choose this job 10 years ago because I did not want to work long hours in restaurants anymore ...

I have this fixed now, on Monday I drive to work with a weeks work wear in the car and the bike in the back (estate car!) and transfer the work wear to my locker. I then leave the car at work, ride home and back for the rest of the week, filtering each days clothes home in a small rucksack, always leaving my work boots at work.
On friday (or saturday on a rota week) I drive home with the bike in the back and anything else I need to get ready for the following week. Keys and passes etc live in the rucksack which is with me every day anyway. If the weather is rubbish I give my classic car a run to work instead (Who cares if it's old it, was designed to be used in all weathers!!)

Over four days, with a total of 250 miles cycling over the four days. No buses morning or night, and none that went within two miles off where I needed to be.

Bike was quicker coming home mid-morniing, certainly easier going back in the early evening.

we were on night shift officially, normal rotation was 8.30- 5 .15 ish , friday was a banked shift due to setting up for new model so thursday we did the normal early friday start , friday was a day of owe them hours/ use holidays or come in making flow racks, saturday was time and a half again flow racks .
Need the cash as Mrs CK isnt getting sick pay whilst off as she does not do enough hours toqualify for sick pay so i have to fill the gap .
20 days without a day off so im taking today off even though i could get double time .46 hours overtime in 3 weeks is enough for me .

cycling for me isnt the fastest way or i would, adds an hour a day for me cycling and i wanted to get some sleep inbetween , that and doing stuff around the house/ kids etc asMrs CK is not 100 % yet

20 days without a day off so im taking today off even though i could get double time .46 hours overtime in 3 weeks is enough for me .

I wouldn't ride to work with the amount of hours I do, it would knacker me out! Last week I did 36 normal hours plus 37 hours overtime, although I admit that is an unusually high week. I couldn't even be bothered to go out for a beer last night after finishing a 14 hour OT shift, I just crashed out indoors. This week I'm likely to do 36 normal plus 24 overtime..

I've been taking Monday's as a rest day since I started this job. I might change though as traffic was a nightmare. Im about. When I cycle Iam that bit earlier to the Park and Ride carpark and that curs the traffic in half.
