they jump out in front in clear daylight with a perfect line of sight so you can only expect even more insanity in trafffic

my experience is that the front of a stopped bus is the best place to hit a pedestrian, on my scooter once, going slowly, I locked the back wheel and skid through a groupe of teenage girls that stepped out in front of me doing that, thankfully they split with squeals, not nice though

I always tread very gingerly around buses at bus stops due to a multitude of hazards that can develop.

I witnessed a good example yesterday of why you should always be careful around buses. There was this flatbed truck who was driving too fast for the prevailing conditions and approaching a couple of buses that had stopped at a bus stop too quickly. There were passengers stepping out into the road between the buses, the driver of the truck then stepped on the brakes hard skidding and nearly taking out the passengers.

The best way to deal with the lurking pedestrian in front of buses is to never make the assumption that they are not there, always assume that there is a pedestrian there unless there is evidence to the contrary.

And even then, cover your brakes. They can leap out of doorways and all sorts....

He said that cars were safe, because they were designed so that a pedestrian would just roll off the bonnet, if hit...

Well, I'm afraid I can tell you from personal experience that it still hurts when they hit you! And while the bonnet may not contain any sharp bits, there's a windscreen at the top of the bonnet which shatters when your head hits it and leaves bits of glass in your flesh.

Anyway. As you were...

Well, I know that... This was just one of those random nutters with a grudge against any cyclists, especially any on 'odd' bikes...

It was am odd day all round. It rained for most of it, and the Lord Mayor came to open our tryout, complete with a bodyguard who told us he was there not to ensure the safety of the Lord Mayor, but that of the official chain....

Even then, if your unlucky to bounce off the bonnet and you hit the ground, THAT HURTS!
