Question about recycling for Andy in Sig and Unkraut

I went to a small off licence that sells a fair bit of german beer. Got some beer there and the guy said oh yeah there's money back on those and I said how come. He said there's a 12p deposit on all german beer bottles. Is this true?

if I remember rightly tis standard practice in Deutschland. Saves them going into landill - very green - like milk bottles used to be....

In Germany a lot of people buy soft drinks and beer in the supermarket by the plastic crate, in bulk. There is often a payback fro returning the bottles, they have a special name for that which escapes me right now.
