Would anyone know if you can cycle up Sir Isaac Newton Way, that's the road that leads to Kingsway Business Park at Milnrow

The business park has a great network of cycling paths but getting to it from Milnrow feels like you are cycling onto the Motorway

I wouldn't touch that road with a barge pole but if you check Streetview out, you can see a dedicated and good-quality cycle lane exists to take cyclists away from the traffic.

Looking again at Streetview, if you follow Lower Lane southwest toward the new road you can see where they've built cycle barriers to connect to the new road, from the existing farm track around Dixon Green Farm. Southwest of the new road there appears to be a new asphalted cycle lane heading on from Lower Lane, so I wouldn't mind betting one now exists heading northeast toward Milnrow.

Ah yes, sorry I wasn't dragging the little man to reveal all the new road/cycle systems highlighted in blue

Looks like a lot of work has happened since I last drove down lower lane creating a fair old network of new paths and roads

I'll try and cycle down there this weekend and suss it all out

U can cycle down there but looks highly dangerous from milnrow end . On 3rd roundabout i hug the inside as the exiting motorway traffic can't see you and they come off at 40 so no time to brake. I do a chain gang on the rest of it as its very quiet and turn before the motorway bit but once traffic dies we are a bit more adventurous.

Thanks Crimmey

Been weighing the whole road system up from the High Crompton side on Streetview and now I understand what they have done it looks like quite a good training route which I intend to explore

From High Crompton and over the Mway,TR at Broad Lane, past the Spring Inn ,then enter Lower Lane and cycle down there

It looks like its been made into a walking/cycling network

This leads onto the road network at Kingsway Business Park which has its own cycle lanes

Head towards Milnrow and at one of the Business Parks Roundabouts there appears to be a side walk that can be cycled down

This ends up following/parallel to Sir Isaac Newton Way and leads onto an underpass where you can go under Elizabethan Way and on into Milnrow/back to Shaw

Or Turn round at the under-section and head back to Shaw

Probably an 8 - 10 mile loop that I can do safely a few times round

I'll give it a try when it stops blowing a gale

I use this area a lot for riding a little loop for a couple of hours,
I get to it from the large roundabout at J21 at Milnrow,I dont go on the road
here, there is a cycle path (shared pavement really but it is marked as a cycle path)
that takes you under the Elizabethan way then brings you out on Ashfield Lane,
from there you can access miles of cycle paths which are perfect for riding fixed on
being slightly rolling. There is another way to get there from High Crompton,If you turn
right just after the motorway there is a gravel path that brings you out on Dig Gate Lane
where they are building a humongous distribution warehouse for Asda.

Cheers Paul

wondered where that gravel path went to

I'll be doing some exploring more of it soon

I have bought a spare wheelset with 32mm CX tyres on so can do the rougher roads as well

Maybe see you out and about/maybe you can show me around next time your doing it ^_^

Think I need to get fitter before I try one of those

The 32mm CX tyres are great for flat, roughish ground but on the hills they kill me,its like wading through treacle

will my 28mm Conti Gator Hardshells cope with canal paths?

edit...

Just been right round the KB Park from Broad Lane end and on down Lower Lane right to the end,

(Slight U turn half way round as a chap had two Rottweilers off the lead)

Then cut through the scenic park route with the pond and on and under Elizabethan Way/Milnrow and home to High Crompton

its a decent 9 mile training route to go round a couple of times

Thanks Hicky

I do need to make an effort to get on a forum ride

It's just the hills that kill me and I suppose I would worry about making an @rse of myself ( it's no excuse but my next one in 6 months is my 50th and I only took up cyling late last year!)

I did the Great Manchester run a few weeks ago,only13 miles but I did quite well, main reason due to it being a lot flatter than round here

If you want to give the canal a go up to Hebden on day give me a shout(weekends), I'm only in Castleton.
