It sounds like you would benefit from another pair of glasses.

I usually just use the cloth that came with the glasses or whatever item of clothing I am wearing at the time. However if I'm doing anything involving "dirt" I always wear my old glasses. Could you not wear an old or cheap pair when under a car etc.

I've accumulated several old pairs of glasses over the years which are very useful (my prescription very rarely changes much). Got a pair in the car (yes I have got half way to work before now and realised I couldn't read any road signs), pair at work, pair in my gym bag. I've even got a pair of painting glasses, complete with paint specs.

I've switched to wearing contacts for the majority of the time now though which is so much better (and all those old glasses dotted about the place are useful for if I ever lose a contact at a rather inopportune time).

i switched from plastic to glass lenses! much easier to clean without scratching.
Is there much of a price difference?

This is a possibility but depending on your prescription you may find glass lenses may not be practical, they may be prohibitively heavy, your optician will be able to advise obviously. I've no idea what the price difference is.

Buy a pair with anti scratch coating, rinse first under thetap, then a drop of washing up liquid worked into all the faces, then rinse off again anddry with kitchen or loo roll

I must admit that would be my concern as my prescription is quite strong and i do have my lens thinned down.

....... I use the disposable eyewear wipes from Aldi.
I also like the Aldi wipes but our branch doesn't have any in at the moment. Next time they have them in I'll get a few boxes.
I have a spray spectacles cleaner and dry them with the cloth that came with my glasses. I keep one in my wallet for when I'm out.

I wash mine in the shower while I am soaping up. During the day it is often a quick wipe with the edge of my tee or sweat shirt.

I have anti glare and anti scratch coatings (can't use glass as I don't like walking with a stoop) but the coating isn't any good when the glasses get flicked off to skit across a garage forecourt.

Under the tap and dry with toilet tissue. I try not to wipe them with my shirt and if I have to I am very careful. I try to use the old pair when I know I am going to be doing something that is going to get them very dirty.

Glasses wipes from Superdrug/ Boots/ Lidl and more work and don't scratch. (I do rinse them if really covered in dust0

I always try to wear an old pair on the bike, gardening, or doing anything else which could get grit on them.

I clean mine under the hot tap maybe once a week but mostly just give them a quick clean with a pair of those tweezer type things that clean both sides at the same time.
I'm heavy on specs. Always dropping them, treading on them, putting something heavy on them or just simply losing them. I stopped buying expensive specs. because it was costing me a fortune.
The pair I have at the moment cost £2.50 and are perfect for my needs.
The only drawback is that they are pink.

I took an alternative route

I have the Rudy Project Ketyum with the Rx prescription lenses.

This is an insert that fits the frame inside the frame

This allows me to change lenses to suit conditions, and also means that these take the main wear and tear. Replacingthem is also a fraction f the cost of replacing the prescription lens

I scrape the worst off with a knife and then soak them in toilet cleaner overnight......I am a very messy eater with a love for spaghetti.

Cleaned this morning with the shaving brush after shaving and are sparkling clean.

Thanks for all the replies.
