Can you fully trust researchers who use the term "grammer" school? It's only a small thing, but it shows lack of attention to detail.

And does the lower proportion of ‘educated’ people in football mean footballers are more or less likely to have sexual comgress with dead animal parts?

Blue Riband biscuits. Is it pronounced Rye-band or Riband? My partner pronounced it the same as ribbon, with a D on the end. I always thought it was R(eye)band. Presumably only the manufacturers know for sure

If it is pronounced your way, that is a deliberate affectation by the manufacturers.

The normal and natural way to pronounce that spelling in English would be as per your partner.

For those of a certain age, getting besieged with pamphlets about retirement, should we pronounce the thing “retire- redee”, or “retty-reddy”, or what?

My personal opinion is that it is more dependant on personality and culture, than it is on tactics and management. Football is generally played (and Managed) by people with a lower standard of etiquette, lower educational achievement and (anecdotally) less grace and patience. Whereas the Rugby culture, including players, managers, coaches and fans, tends to be....better.

I tar with a very wide brush I accept that, but it's just my personal experience of being on, and having children on, both Football and Rugby teams from age 4+.

In essence: frequent, reactive shouting = Football. Infrequent, proactive instructions = Rugby
