When I bought my car three years ago, there was a significant difference in price between a flat colour and metallic. White was the only flat colour available hence an increase in the number of white cars on the road. If white is now fashionable maybe the price is no longer very different.

It used to be that black, red and green cost more because they required additives to stabilise the pigment and stop them either fading or, in the case of black, turning green. With modern finishes that's no longer the case, so this charging for any colour other than white malarkey is nothing more than an attempt to extract extra money from the buyer for exactly zero extra expense on the part of the manufacturer.

On the one hand I like white. On the other, it highlights the shut lines and panel gaps and looks horrid. Fortunately, in my mind the car is a method of transportation, and the paint is present merely to stop the steel rusting.
