I'm trying to sort out flights and trains... I've found a flight that has an arrival time of 6pm into the airport (domestic flight) and a train that leaves from Birmingham International train station at 6:38 pm. Is that a sensible gap or would I be better allowing an extra hour to catch the train?

Does it matter? If your flight is delayed (almost inevitable as delays stack up during the day) you can always catch the later train, can't you?

I don't know... I don't fly that often (in fact I'm hopefully flying with an out of date passport a only 6 months out of date), I've never been to that airport it's either that or the train an hour later... and a long sit down.... one of those cheap advance train fares.... or do I just buy on the day....?

I've never been to bham airport, but if it were me, I'd leave with plenty of time and just take it easy. Any spare time at the airport can be used to entertain yourself at the shops or iPad or cyclechat etc.

Do you have luggage to collect? Birmingham isn't huge but my experience of flying these days (admittedly international not domestic) is that airlines quite often seem to miss their departure slots.
If it were me I would get an advance ticket for the later train or an anytime/off peak ticket if not too much dearer.

Regular scheduled flight, you can check it's performance.

Won't help much, nor would anything else, if there was an incident on the day.

It's flying with EasyJet since I couldn't guarantee the others would accept the passport, and that's why it's coming back into Birmingham because I couldn't book a flight to Bristol at the right ish sort of time!! Mr Summerdays is irritated with me that I've made it more complicated than I needed to:rolleyes:

Of course it would have all been simple if I'd have had an upto date passport (and no I don't have a photo ID driving licence... that's the next thing to sort out). I'm a disorganised soul:whistle:

I use Birmingham airport frequently. My son tells me that it has a dedicated seating area for me. I sometimes go straight to work from the airport after weekend in Europe. Here is my advice.
If you are using domestic flights, that includes flights from Dublin, you do not need to go through the passport control. That save you time.
But if you have a baggage to claim, it can take time. Remember that even if you have a hand luggage, airline sometimes take it and put it to the checked in baggage area. The way to avoid is to be at the front of the line and use all your charm if they tried to take it out from you.
You take the train from the airport to the railway station. If you know the platform, then you can leg it quickly down the steps.
It takes maximum 10 minutes from leaving the airport to the platform. Yes I have timed it.
If the flight arrives in time, you can do it. But I know the airport and station as the back of my hand and do not wait to look for signs etc.
Can you not just fork out for an emergency passport and remove all the risk?
I'd stress more about whether it would arrive in time... I started doing it but wasn't sure the photo met the requirements! Then was confused over other questions... it just seemed easier to leave all that stuff!

Since I have your attention... couple more questions.... I've downloaded the app to have a boarding pass on my phone.... is that a good idea.... worth carrying the paper copies too?

And I notice you can check in online before the flight too? What is the purpose of that? I thought your check in was to say I'm here at the airport I want my seat?
