Since I have your attention... couple more questions.... I've downloaded the app to have a boarding pass on my phone.... is that a good idea.... worth carrying the paper copies too?

And I notice you can check in online before the flight too? What is the purpose of that? I thought your check in was to say I'm here at the airport I want my seat?

I use a phone app but take paper copies... just in case.
Check in online and choose your seat. It saves queuing and you can go direct to security if you only have hand baggage,

Let it choose the seat for you, it's free then.

Ok so I've checked in to my outgoing flight... but I can't seem to check in to the subsequent one... is that because I haven't done the first flight yet? (Or cos I'm a technical bumpkin:whistle:)

Birmingham airport has a bit problem at the moment with ground staff. There is a chance that you won't get off the plane in time, waiting for someone to bring the steps or something equally daft.

Passport control is a bit of a lottery, so avoiding that coming from Belfast is a really big bonus.

From airport to train station is via the cable-hauled air-rail link. Once you are out of security and into the main part (barriers, people waiting for people with signs), turn immediately left. Carry on walking round past the car hire people until you see the escalators. Go up, and at the top, just on the right, but tucked away out of site is the embarkation point for the shuttle.
