I have a Raleigh Bob with what I'm sure is a threaded headset with an alloy 1" quill stem. I want to put a modern folding bike-type quick release system onto the stem so I can quickly turn the handlebars sideways when I leave the bike in my hall. Do I have to go to a threadless headset to do this? Thanks in advance.

Two thoughts.
- a qr system only saves you looking for and using an allen key or spanner? So just use an allen key.
- take the front wheel out and twist the handle bars.

This would probably be for flat storage in a hallway. Removing the wheel every time would be a real hassle. Using an allen key would probably wear out the aluminium threads on the stem after a few hundred goes.
You can fit an adapter from threaded to threadless on which you can fit a qr.

Can you even get folding bike type QR stems that are short enough? Most seem to add about 12 inches of height, which may be too tall, likehttp://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Folding-Bike-Bicycle-Cycling-Adapter-Riser-Stem-Quick-Release-Adjust-Fit-25-4mm/282274729768

Then there are conventional QR stems like https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/QUICK-RE...TEM-25-4mm-ALLOY-QUILL-STEM-RARE/182884305700 but I think that only adjusts height, not rotation.

I know some old folding bikes used QR stem bolts like https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VINTAGE-...UICK-RELEASE-6-1-2-EXPANDER-BOLT/202128367603 but I'd expect that to wear the stem and steerer if used daily.

Have you considered storing the bike high up on the wall using various types of mounting so the bars don't get in your way? Lots of ideas on pinterest. Not great if you are a renter though, as modifications to walls are usually not permitted.
