First post here, I've been riding a terrible hybrid which i bought for about £50 from halfords just to get into cycling. I want to upgrade to a road bike. I dont want to spend a shedload on a bike I may or may not use as I haven't done proper road cycling so dont know if i will enjoy it or not. Anyway i'm thinking off buy this. What are your thoughts? I know its not going to be great, probably not even good but will this get me used to Road bikes as in the layout of them, maintenance and actually riding them.

Cheers

haha .. i did the same thing...bought a Raleigh Apollo from Halfords £65 i think
it was too heavy, sluggish - awful

if you dont want to spend too much at the outset - get in touch with biggs682 on here
he usually has some nice rebuilds available at a decent price

good luck and ****WELCOME****

Cheers for the input everyone. Been thinking about what i'm going to do and will probably buy the bike just to get used to road bikes and if I dont end up using it atleast its only a £100 bike in the shed and not a £500 one.

It won't get you used to modern road bikes though as you'll be riding on the bar tops all the time so you can change gear. Do you know anyone who has a road bike you can take out for a ride? Where do you live? If you're in south london you can come out with me on my spare.

My recent road bike I bought to get back into cycling had thumb shifters on the bars like the one in your link and it does mean you're up on the hoods or bars a lot of the time.
If you can stretch to £300 then the Triban 3 from Decathalon would be a good starting point and have the features of a modern road bike
