I've been trying to find a quote for a couple of weeks now and keep coming up stumped.

Thought one of you brainy folks might know it.

Sorry I'm a bit vague but it has something to do with not wanting volunteers but that the people who are best for the job need to be dragged kicking and screaming.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

^ no, it was almost the opposite of that.

The point was that if someone was volunteering for a publick political role they aren't suitable - the right person wouldn't want the limelight.

Maybe it wasn't Winston then.

Driving me nuts.

A colleagues work cup has two quotes from Winston Churchill -
"History will be kind to me for I intend to write it"

and the one which is most apt -
"Success is the ability to go from one failure to another with no loss of enthusiasm".

Are you by any chance thinking of Twelfth Night? Act V scene I:
CLOWN
Why, 'some are born great, some achieve greatness,
and some have greatness thrown upon them.
' I was
one, sir, in this interlude; one Sir Topas, sir; but
that's all one. 'By the Lord, fool, I am not mad.'
But do you remember? 'Madam, why laugh you at such
a barren rascal? an you smile not, he's gagged:'
and thus the whirligig of time brings in his revenges.
