R.I.P Brigitte Bardot

She was, as already stated and animal rights activist for decades, spending her years more concerned about animal welfare than the trappings of wealth. I first heard of her in our early 1970's French lessons at school. Our French teacher, a certain Mr Metcalfe (Catweazle) told us then that she was in her 80's! To a teenager, being in one's 80's meant very ancient! The silly old dodderer had got it completely wrong, as at the time she was in her late 30's! 😏

She was that. But also a horrid racist. They are two separate things. In fact she was convicted for inciting racial hatred many times.

Give it a rest eh! She has just died, so maybe if you haven't anything slightly positive to say about the dead, maybe say nothing at all! 😏

I must have seen hundreds of photos of her in the papers over the years but I've never seen a single one of her films.

IIRC, it was in the early days of The Independent when they had a policy of doing obituaries warts and all. It was a refreshing change from the panegyrics we normally got elsewhere.
