They do help though ime. Obviously if it's that rainy you're going to get wet but I'd prefer not to have a stream of dirty water being kicked up in
my face :smile:

That said I actively avoid riding in the rain close to other cyclists

I have a choice of bikes and the one with mudguards on would be used for both mine and others increased comfort.

I also have no problem helping people by letting them so on my wheel, if it makes it easier or faster for them then that is fine by me.

Good gracious. All those wannabees (and probably neverwillbees) riding a sportive with mudguards! Would never fit their internal image of being a "racer" in a "race". never used to train without guards on an old bike in the wet winters of northern Europe, getting properly wet was reserved for races. Later in the year, different. That said, if it's raining like it is today, I don't go out. It's one thing when you have to do it as part of a schedule, but for fun...nah!
