Rain riding?

Looking out of the window wondering whether to go out on the bike today. Normally, I'd be riding to work and wouldn't worry too much about the weather. Thing is, I've got a few days off and I'm finding it hard to get motivated to out and get a good drenching (I sound negative already!).

Anyone going to hit the road even though they don't have to? If so, let me know...it might spur me on!

Just do it - naked if you don't want to get your clothes wet.

Is it just me, or is partly the embarrassment factor? If you get caught in heavy rain and your neighbours see you arriving back they think "Oh what a shame, she got caught in the rain" whereas if they see you setting off in heavy rain I am sure they think "What a weirdo, going out in that"

@jefmcg and I did Cambridge -London yesterday, knowing it was going to rain as we got closer to London. Cycled for about 2 hours in the rain, last hour, heavy. Vile, I got home soaked, cold. Warm bath helped. Every item of clothing went in the wash, including drenched shoe covers and socks. My feet were squelching

I know why I am a fair weather cyclist basically!

Proper rain (bouncing 2 or 3 inches or more when it hits the ground) - Stay inside and watch it.
Horizontal rain (driven by wind of 25mph or more) - Stay inside and watch it.
Drizzle (everything else) - Get out Jessie
Finding oneself out in Proper or Horizontal - Actually quite character-building with 'Look at me, I'm proper tough now' thoughts but actually looking forward to steaming hot bath soon.

As long as it's not cold or you are cold, riding in the rain ain't so bad.
This is my issue, I get cold very fast once my legs are wet especially. I have to say my £25 funkier rain jacket and Rohan merino base layer did me proud at keeping my top half warm enough while moving, cold when stopped though

My neighbours probably think I'm a wierdo, anyway. My driveway's always empty, and every day I leave on my bike at 4:40am and arrive home around 6-6:30pm. Weather makes no difference: I've started the pre-dawn commute when it's been raining heavily.

When it was raining heavily at the end of last week, I just got out & got on with it

Friday, I was on an early-turn (06:00-15;00) & there was sheet lightening to the south, over Barnsley
As I left the house at 04:40, it was so heavy that it almost hurt the legs & face - yes!, I'd chosen to run there, & 'XC'!!
Or, as Terry Pratchett phrased it, in one of his books, it was 'raining so hard that it was queuing up to hit the ground'

Going through the woods was a even more fun than normal, as there was no point in even trying to skirt puddles/muddy patches (river bank was a bit slippery though!), nothing that I'm not used to, with the fell-racing.

Worst part..... everything was still sodden, when I put it back on to run home, but it was still raining quite heavily, so it only mattered inside the Hospital itself:laugh:

Threw it down again on Saturday afternoon, for my late-turn (14:00-22:00), so I got very wet on the bike
Again, sodden clothing at 22;00
(no drying facilities, just coat-hangers)

Granted, yes, I could have gone in the car either (or both days), maybe it's a bit of masochism coming through (like we all suffer from at times??)
