Rain riding?

We were ride leads on one of our local club rides so had to go at 9.00 Saturday despite it being rather wet. Certainly would have stayed away if we had not been committed to it but got underway, rain eased off then stopped and it turned out to be a really pleasant ride.

Mrs OTH seemed to take a keen interest in a fit young man who was showing her his waterproofing method of putting Vaseline on his legs.

I know what you mean - the rain is pretty off putting. I have put my mudguards back on my road bike, reluctantly. They don't weigh much but I prefer to ride without them - but in the rain they are a godsend, no wet backside and the bike stays cleaner and dryer too. If you have the right kit it can be fun going out in the rain, overshoes, waterproof trousers, waterproof jacket. Things get a little hot in all that kit though. I tend to put lights on too.

Today, I face the exact same dilemma, my lunch time ride looks set for rain, if it starts before I go out, I may not bother, but if it rains while I am out, then fine.

I admit it, I am a total rain wimp. Cannot stand the stuff. It's like night and day, the difference between riding in the rain or the dry.
Not only is it uncomfortable, it is also an added risk as visibility is reduced both to the cyclist and other road users.
Plus all that rain and assorted muck getting into your bike components is not doing it any good. Then there's the matter of having to wash and/or dry your wet kit after every ride.
Ride in the wet if you must, but I avoid it like the plague. Living in the west of Scotland, that policy tends to greatly reduce riding opportunities, but so be it. I ride for enjoyment, not for some sort of endurance test.

I am just about to go out, and it has indeed just starting raining. Will let you know who wins, Weather or me.

OK, I got properly rained on, started as drizzle then got heavier and heavier. Massive puddles with hidden potholes. My clothing kept me dry and I am now in the warm again.

1hr ride, 15 miles. 800 ft climbing. Windy and Wet

These day if its raining in the morning I commute by car, if I'm doing a leisure ride and its raining when I get up I normally go back to bed, I've done my share of wet rides over the years.

Rain does not bother me, actually I prefer a light drizzle to a hot sunny day to go for a ride.
Of course, many times I have had to set out for work or home in a downpour. Don't have a car, by the time I wait for the bus I may as well cycle it.
Extra care, maybe a different route if the visibility is impaired by rain, but ride I do nevertheless if a ride was planned.

Well...another day looking out of the window wondering what to do??? Yesterday I dodged the rain and got a quick ride in but don't think I'll have that luxury today...it's really coming down!
