Rainbow coloured carrots.....what is that all about?

So as part of our (lovely) roast dinner today Mrs Dave got a pack of rainbow carrots .
They were all carrot shaped but of various colours.....normal orange, yellow, purple and a darker yellow..
All of them tasted ok. Purple ones were a bit tough/hard but edible.
So......WHY??
I am quite happy with traditional orange ones.......why confuse it.
BTW.....I know all carrots were originally purple. But that changed for a reason.

Carrots are naturally purple. The orange carrot was developed to appease the horror, felt by the majority of the world, towards purple carrots.

Orange carrots were a genetic mutation that was bigged up by the dutch, because ... william of orange I think.
