A lot depends on what style of riding you are considering as a long distance fact touring / Audax type machine it fits the bill nicely (IMO of course). If you are considering road racing / time trailing I think you may be dissappointed. Would make a great commuter BTW.

Not sure about the aesthetics of the crankset against the classic looks of the rest of the bike, looks slightly at odds.
I have an original 70s model, although the fork rake is better on the new one, mine is terrible round town, turns slower than a supertanker
I rebuilt a couple of 80s Raleigh 531 frames with full Tiagra group sets, I like it them, but a good friend of mine wasnt sure about the chainset, but GB do a beautiful retro chainset now for about £120
Beauty, and ugliness, is in the eye of the beholder i guess.
Chainset, i agree, it really could have had a better one. Sloping top tube, meh, traditional style may have looked better, it'd be interesting to see what it would have looked like then.
Part of me agrees, it could have been better....but i'd still have one
