I put the reason why i am staying you [zb]

I know you did. But if you're going to stay, fine, stay. If you're going to go, equally fine. But don't go on and on about how you're "losing it a bit with this site", then tell us why you're staying as if you're doing us all a massive favour.

I really hope that the people that I do, or potentially would, get on well with on here do also do so, because I for one will be making an effort to turn my back on it now.

.

Okay, since you've had one side of the story (I was going to reply privately to your PM Ray but since you've posted publicly I'll post here), I'll tell you all exactly what I said to Ray and let you decide whether you think I've been unfair or too harsh.

I found that Ray had posted hundreds of separate links to his site despite also having it linked in his signature.

As such I asked that when he replied to posts he give advice rather than abitrarily linking to his site. (He already has a link to his site in his signature so it doesn't need linking to a second time in the reply post.)

(Note: I haven't asked Ray to remove any links to his site, or to remove the link from his signature.)

I said to Ray that if he continued to work his site links into his replies I would consider it spamming, and may suspend his account. (Maybe this was too harsh?)

I also noted that Ray obviosuly has a great interest in cycling and enjoys his time here at CycleChat, but asked that he not use CC as a vehicle to keep sponsors happy - that isn't in the spirit of CC.

Now, you may think I've been too hard on Ray, and you're all entitled to say so.

You're equally free to stay or go in support of any percieved wrong doing against Ray - as is your want.

However, all I have asked Ray to do is cut down on the number of times he links to his site in his replies. Is that so bad?

Maybe I could have done it better, but that's the basic gist of it.

Cheers,
Shaun

(while we await Randochap's reply,)

I dont think that sounds too unfair, if he has a secondary agenda to post here due to sponsor obligations/rewards then that's too much. If he is genuinely posting relevant links to specific pages (that actually help the OP) I cant see a problem.

I had a quick look at the site but didnt find it very easy to navigate. Therefore direct links may be quite helpful.

I've no problem with an occasional link with very specific help (such as a puncture fixing instructional video - definitely helpful), however, Ray links to his site in hundreds of his replies when he already has the link in his signature.

In a good number of cases, the replies just contain a link to his site - no specific advice, just a link. Equally, there are links worked into the replies that are simply not relative or necessary.

It could all be done much more effectively with a simple change of signature (it's just a suggestion):

"I've been cycling for years; find out about me, my bikes, and my love for cycling here: www.veloweb.ca (includes helpful cycling hints and tips)"

This would be added to every one of Ray's posts and get him plenty of exposure for his site.

If people find it difficult to navigate his site, then that's something for Ray to look at.

I'm not kicking Ray off the forum, or telling him to stop posting, or even having a pop at him for bringing a private disucssion into the public arena; just asking him to stop posting so many additional links to his site.

Cheers,
Shaun
