Wow. Never realised the American teams paid so well. Second and third in the pay league, and five teams in the top twelve.

Agreed. But losing one (either one) means no fuel for the fire. Rangers look more likely to go bust than the other mob, so bring it on! Both clubs disappearing would be too much to hope for, but welcome all the same. Well done the 'Ton BTW .

Unless Ashley keeps bankrolling them, Rangers will be bust in a couple of months. Again.

I doubt they will go bust as long as they gain promotion this year , you cant keep milking a cow once it is dead ^_^

THe saddest thing about this is the fact that lessons are not being learned.

Portsmouth FC went through this years ago, and everyone talked about it as being a lesson to be learned by other clubs, and predicted that they were not alone... unless clubs curbed expenses and became realistic about finaces then others would follow the same route

Lets hope that where the Portsmouth crisis failed to have any real impact, that this time there IS a wake up call to football clubs, especially when you look at the debts of clubs....

Liverpool - £110 million debts
Rangers - £145 million debts
Bolton Wanderers - £267 million debts
Arsenal - £384 million debts
Manchester United - £569 million debts

How long before the bubble bursts on the fantasy economics of these clubs?

I fear it will happen soon. With the tickets to EPL games rising, as well as Sky subscription prices going up 10%, there will be a tipping point. Could be another ITV Digital scenario.

The sooner ra peepul are put to bed the better.

This is unlikely to happen while the SFA and the media are trying to convince everyone that Old Firm derbies are vital to Scottish fitba which is a real shame.

If you hate the f*ckin auld firm etc...

The west coast mafia as Fergie called them when he was at Aberdeen. Still no change almost 30 years on.

That's not exactly a cert. Hearts are playing very well this season.

Amazing considering the cutbacks Hearts had to make .

On your thought..
I thought why not make clubs use the 'Bundesliga' methodology?
Look at the full stadiums at 90% of their games...
Every club in the league has to stick to the rules or they are down.....
They are all selling clubs (even Bayern Munich)...

You could stand on the terraces at Dortmund and Bayern for well less than £200 a season ticket....
Conference prices are higher than the Bundesliga !!!!!
Read this and be shocked HERE

Who is pocketing the money in EPL? and now we see why foreign investment *eyes to sky* is desperate to buy in....

On the ITV digital model, no one else wanted to pay the money as the English cash cow is always the EPL...Bein Sports (Al Jazeera) and BT Sport and maybe Virgin Media would be in the bidding but SKY need the EPL...
The clubs who were part of the ITV deal spent money they never had..that was the problem..it was projected income from ITV..

The lot (SKY, BT Sport) are continually telling you, It's the best league in the world (IMO La Liga) and the foreign players are flocking to play there, no it's flocking to get the mad money that is being paid, remember Italy's Serie A in the 90s? the bubble burst there.....

Edit to add..

Woking charge £15 and £275 for a season ticket..

Rangers, their fans held the power when they went "pop", it's a shame that they didn't act.

Bradford City charge £199 for a 23 game ST, £8.65 per game. I think that is about right and £12 should be the walk up cost, in fact it is £20, for 3rd division footie, more than I recently paid to watch Malaga v Bilbao. We probably have an average L1 budget but watching a game with 12000+ others is hugely more enjoyable than watching the same with 7000 rattling around a 25k stadium.

I agree wholly with this. I believe a sky sports subscriotion is now about £25 on top of the £40 or so for the other tv channels. My subs here in hong kong are £35 all in, sports plus hbo and the tv. Epl clubs made so much money from tv that they could let everyone in for free last season and it wouldn‘t dent their profits in anyway. It‘s just greed now from the clubs and tv companies.

Of course, the Yankees have a lot of gate and franchise money to back them. That's why they have so many World Series wins. The Saint Louis Cardinals also have many World Series wins, because God favors them. (Actually, they have a minor league farm system and scouting office that are the envy of most of major league baseball.) But New York, with population and metro support, always have good gate, great licensing, and lots of advertising revenue. Same is true of Los Angeles.

And a side note to the above. The Chicago Cubs have made good money at baseball by not winning a World Series for more than 100 years, due to the curse of the goat. The Cubs learned, long ago, that by making your team a part of peoples' cultural life, you do not need to spend a great deal of money on all this game winning nonsense. This may be your way forward re Glasgow. A thrifty Scottish solution.

Unfortunately, Rangers are very much part of the general football culture in Scotland, for mostly the wrong reasons.
