This morning we have a spokesman from the fairlyland world of professional football warning of "social unrest" in the land if Rangers don't get restored to the higher echelons.:biggrin::biggrin:
the horrible thing is that he may have a point

I was at school round about the time that Rangers had their 9 in a row and all that crap. The school was FULL of Rangers fans who acted like utter tools to be quite honest. I remember one of them brought in a fanzine once and quite frankly, I wouldn't have wiped my ar*se with it.

The few Celtic fans there were, were generally polite and courteous in comparison, and I don't believe it was self preservation either. That said, I didn't go to a Catholic School (I'm not a Catholic anyway), but I have been told the difference between a Rangers fan and a Celtic fan a few times since and, I'm afraid, if I had to choose, I'd be a Celtic fan any day, the lesser off two evils and all that.

Of course, there will always be the lunatic fringe on both sides, I'm not denying that, but generally, I have always found Rangers fans to be a lot more obnoxious about things.
I Agree I am not in either camp but even good friends of mine can sound arrogant when they talk about the 'teddy bears' I don't even think they know they do it

I believe the reason for this observation by Mad Doug Biker and myself (I have experienced the same) is that their strand of Christianity includes a pretty high degree of persecution complexes. If pressed and priveleges removed, they/we tends to look at that as being persecuted. This "bunker mentality" is not uncommon in Glasgow and is the major strand in Northern Ireland, 100 miles away. Two communities with a lot in common, Rangers being one of them.

This is what I believe is what they fear is going to be "social unrest". Rangers was betrayed by their owners and not by anyone outside the club or the strand of Christianity. The fan's anger is now adressed at Whyte and Murray. Not at Celtic or anyone outside their own community.

That might not happen if they have a mass exodus, I think some players have clauses in their contracts that allows them to leave. Steven Naismith has just joined Everton on a free transfer after refusing to have his contract transfered from the old Rangers to the new Rangers, I wonder how many more will reject a contract transfer? They could be stuck in the third division for eternity

Yes - even Naarwich have signed Steven Whittaker on a free after he refused to join Rangers Mk 2.

Apparently even 75% of Rangers fans believe the club should start in the bottom tier. If the SFL enforce their rules to the letter they will even have a problem getting into that as applicants to join the league need to have three years signed off accounts before they can be considered.

I don't believe the financial impact of Rangers demise will be as bad as some (particularly Rangers) like to make out. Sky needs football more than football needs Sky, the company was weeks away from going bust before they got the Premier League deal. No-one is going to pay sixty or seventy quid a month to watch endless re-runs of Fawlty Towers and Cheers..

That definitely won't happen because Gretna went out of business.....

A good number of Rangers fans are quite happy to see their team start from scratch in the Third Divison, but just how much of that is down to the idea that a) it'll stop the SPL clubs getting as much cash for at least 3 years and b) they can boycott away games (at least until they're back in the SPL) to get back at the rest of Scottish football for treating Rangers so badly.

Sad to say, rather a lot I think.

What this should be is a wake up call to Scottish football to do something about the terrible state it's in, not just shove the sticking plaster back on and hope it holds.

Yes off course. Exposing cheating, in fact financial doping and illegal gains, is off course treating Rangers badly and deserves a lenghty cry behind the sofa. I will also ask my employer to pay me my wages as a loan with a 1 % tax payment of my annual renumaration... sorry, loan.... again to the taxman. That means my employer can pay wages their competitors cannot afford and get an unfair advantage on the recruitment market. That was what Rangers did to populate their silver ware cabinet for a long time. That and pocket the tax and national insurance due to the taxman in their pocket and then file for administration when they were asked to pay the taxes. That and sell four years worth of ticket revenue to a third party to pay for old debt. Money who was meant to pay for the running of the club in those four years.

*black, acrid steam coming out of both my ears*

Sorry, but it is good to let out steam in a forum instead of triggering a heart attack this way.

The chairmen of Real Madrid, Barcelona, AC and Inter Milan reading that and going 'That's a model of fiscal responsibility. The British sure do have a strange concept of financial wrong-doing.'

That's true SJ, but they have the Prem and La Liga.

I only watch them apart from the odd old firm game.

Sky must make a miniscule profit from Scottish football and have plenty on offer from decent leagues now.

They gambled and spent a fortune on football in the early years, but I doubt they are losing. sleep now as they have sown up most of the Prem and the Spanish league plus some of the Champions League.

I doubt a single perdon will cancel their Sky Sports Subscription because Rangers have been relegated

That's the point I was making.

Even though The proportion of Sky's profit coming from Scotland is small they only make it because of football. Rangers are trying to convince the other clubs that if they don't get special treatment Sky will pull the plug and everyone else will suffer.
