Surely the other SPL clubs a shooting themselves in the foot, without the old firm game the tv companies are going to pay way less for the rights and they may not even bother.

They are between a rock and a hard place. If they admit Rangers back into SPL, the fans will boycott them and they will loose vital income. If they expel Rangers from SPL, which they did, they will loose TV money (vital income). The choice was between pest and cholera. Scottish football may also face severe sanctions from both UEFA and FIFA over this issue for both allowing Rangers to take them to court and win against them + for bringing the game into (serious) disrepute. The situation could not be more grave... but it probably will. I would not be surprised if the Scottish FA, including the national team, was expelled from international football for some years as all the FIFA and UEFA rules on self governance has been broken. Many African nations has been expelled for a short/long time for the same reasons.

Thankfully, my favourite team is Nottingham Forest and not a Scottish team.

Oh yes, I have some relatives like that, they won't even touch anything green if they can help it. Infantile is not anywhere near a strong enough word to describe it.
