just switched myself to a DE razor, got Edwin Jagger for Crimbo but think I need a longer handle ?Not really cut myself more than I did before, however I think I get quite close shave, hot face wash,oil massaged in then shaving soap, seems to make a huge difference to how good a shave you get?

Oh forgot also use the Alum block at the end, very nippy but feels so smooth and clean

....Merkur 38c fits the bill. Not cheap but very solidly made.

Ive had it with cartridge blades, so going to try a real safety razor

Currently own a 1950's single edge Ever Ready, patented in 1912, housed in a Bakelite box

I've got a rechargeable Phillips triple head. Can't be bothered with replacing the blades though as advised - Last one still cut perfectly well when it's motor died after 6 years.
Also use a Hydro 5 sometimes. Nice to see they're half price at Morrisons this week.

@YahudaMoon - try the shaving shack, i read a lot of reviews but in the end went for a midrange badger brush. The shaving soaps that come in a pot last absolutely ages, i went for poraso sensitive, which has been going since July and still has half left.
Blades are a personal preference, and i'm still working my way through a starter (multi) pack.

Have to say I never grew to like my Edwin Jagger. Prefer my Gillette Tech (1950s I think).

I've just moved from a Merkur to trying a Braun Series 3 electric. There appears to be a knack to electric shaving as I currently have to keep tidying up with a bladed razor when I've finished which kind of negates the point.

Did not get on at all with the Electric razor, think your skin has to adjust to it as well, tried it but it just does not do the same as wet shave. I can tell a huge difference in my chops since going the olde fashioned way since Xmas.

I always found an electric razor give a sub standard shave to a wet shave, not really my thing at all.

In terms of soap, the Proraso is really good, I need to get some more, currently using Taylors of Bond Street sandalwood soap. Lovely stuff but not quite as nice as the Proraso.

I have quite a range of soaps and creams. My go-to soap is usually Tabac though - out of all the soaps I own, you can't beat it for scent or lathering ability. It's a real 'old faithful'.

If I'm in a hurry and I want an excellent quick shave, I always turn to my Merkur Futur dialled up high, Feather blade, Tabac soap, Simpsons Commodore X1 brush (which works brilliantly with a soap), Simple AS Balm and Tabac AS.

How does everyone get rid of old blades? I've just started using a de razor. Don't really want to just put them in the bin..

I put the old blade in the waxy paper the new one comes out of and bin it. I did worry I was going to hurt a bin rooter but tried it & found I can press quite hard on the edge of the wrapped blade without any worry.
