Or do what I do and forget about shaving until the stubble gets annoying, then clip 95% of it off, shave another 4% with an electric razor, and finish off with a cheap multiblade razor! Usually once or twice a week in the winter, and two or three times a week in the summer.

I got a Philips Norelco Electric some years ago, and am very happy. Always had a stubborn beard, but this and the Braun do a good job. Do like the Braun for engineering, but the Philips Norelco does the best job. I used double edges for the longest time and loved them, as well as a straight razor, But I prefer the straight razor in the hands of a skilled barber to my own efforts.

Apart from a brief dalliance with electric razors four decades ago (one of which died early morning on the day I had an interview - what a day to pick!) I have wet-shaved with inexpensive cartridge razors ever since. I've learned more about DE razors by reading this thread than I ever learned previously, but it sounds as though I'd need to set aside more time for a wet shave using one than I take at present. For me, shaving is just something that has to be done morning and evening and not something I want to take any longer than it needs to. Once-over in the direction of the beard first, once-over against the direction - done. A triple-blade cartridge generally lasts me a week and I stock up twice a year.

Personal grooming should never be boring, it's time for yourself. I love real shaving, compared to cheap gillette products

Any time spent looking at my face is wasted time, and pretty unpleasant too.

I have quite a range of soaps and creams. My go-to soap is usually Tabac though - out of all the soaps I own, you can't beat it for scent or lathering ability. It's a real 'old faithful'.

If I'm in a hurry and I want an excellent quick shave, I always turn to my Merkur Futur dialled up high, Feather blade, Tabac soap, Simpsons Commodore X1 brush (which works brilliantly with a soap), Simple AS Balm and Tabac AS.

I read this post about two weeks ago and I ordered some Tabac soap, I had considered buying some a couple of times before but chicken out at the last minute your post helped me overcome the fear
It wasn't love at first sight, great performance but it took a while to begin to like the scent. I'm still unsure about the scent to the point that I would not reorder another pot today.... I might change my mind in time.

I think I'd like to try the Mercur Futur at some point.
I like the Feather blades very much but I've just ordered some Personna Israeli red to try, I read somewhere that they are a good match to my Merkur 34 HD.

I was never sure about the Body Shop's Maca Root shaving cream at first, but as the years have gone by it's grown on me. Used it for the first time in ages at the weekend and really enjoyed it. It also has a fantastic, slick lather - just what I needed for shaving with one of my less-forgiving straight razors!

Absolutely, the Tabac is becoming a firm favorite. For a long time I only use some EG Alovera soap and I never wanted to try anything else so I need a little time to get used to

I wanted to try a cream and it was a toss between the Body Shop's Maca Root and Taylor of Old Bond Street Coconut, I went for the later and I find it less slick than the soaps which it's not what I was expecting. I will try the Maca Root next

Fred resurrection time. How’s everyone getting on with their various we shaving routines?

as a result of this fred a while back a I bought a Mer razor, and just didn’t get on with it, I can’t re bet what I did with it, chucked it ain’t think and went back to cartridges. Currently using Harry’s products, but feck me it’s getting expensive and all the plastic packing etc. is starting to irk me.

I‘m considering giving the DE razors another go.

Whats the current thinking on these, any changes in the last few years?

Double Edge razors all the way for me. Saves a FORTUNE over the gimmicks of double, triple etc etc blades.
I buy the 'selection packs' of blades for mine, but then inevitably I forget which one I'm using so it's not really working out the way I thought.
That said - I've never really not got on with a blade - so they're all pretty similar for me.
