And counting down to GC's next puncture.......

Since fitting SM+ tyres six years (or 24,000 miles) ago, the puncture fairy has never troubled me. Sometimes if I'm caught out by a patch of broken glass that I've seen too late, I have heard a strange squealing yelp that I'm sure is her when I run her over. I think she's learned her lesson..

I had a similar incident with regard to crashing on Wednesday. First came hubris, i.e. thinking that the many years since my last crash proved I was a great bike handler. Nemesis struck that afternoon in the form of a crash into a wall and the subsequent endo face first into barbed wire. And finally catharsis, as I contemplate my stitches and swellings.

The + symbol on my Schwalbe Marathons repels the puncture fairy. Fact.

Last time I said that, I got three in a week.

I haven't had a puncture since adding the plus sign three or four years ago ... but last week, I got a flat. Turned out to be a previously repaired puncture in the inner tube - the edge of the patch had lifted, perhaps encouraged by being left in direct sunshine all day at work? A roady in the office couldn't quite get his head round the idea that I actually repair inner tubes.

My god you must hate cycling. Six year long prison sentence is better than six years on marathons.
