There is only one official lake in the Lake District. It's not Wastwater.
that's not really a factoid, such things are supposed to be interesting!

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/cumbria/4263761.stmPolice removed a gnome garden from the bottom of Wast Water (at approx 48m depth) for safety reasons. Rumours are its been replaced but at a depth of >50m, beyond which the police aren't allowed to dive.
Wastwater (lake) in the Lake District is the deepest lake in the UK at 79 mtrs.
There is no official recorded dive to the bottom.

The deepest lake in the UK is Loch Morar in the Highlands of Scotland, reaching a maximum depth of 310 meters.
...and there have been numerous dives to the bottom of Wastwater as a simple search will reveal.
FTFY
I put (lake) so everyone would know what
Thanks.
My bad......I meant to say England.
Re anyone been recorded as diving to the bottom......I double/treble checked. The report i quoted from says not but I found several others that say the opposite ie that divers have reached the bottom.
Didn’t someone bump off their missus and dump her in there thinking no one would ever find the body. Yet some diver did.
In 1976, the "Wasdale Lady in the Lake", Margaret Hogg, was murdered by her husband and her body was disposed of in the lake. She was found after eight years, with her body preserved like wax due to the lack of oxygen in the water.
As you say, much depends on how "the bottom" is defined. The 1st report i read clearly stated its never been done but after @kynikos said what he did i checked 2 other reports that said it has been done.regarding the "bottom" - its an odd one, because the gnome garden was described as being on the bottom, but at 48 metres. The bottom of any lake is at various depths, @Dave7's hypothesis was no-one has dived to the very deepest bit of 79m, which would obviously require more than just air in your tank. I haven't been arsed to google to see what evidence supports the yes vs no.
).My deepest dive was 44 metres on a single 12L tank with normal air
I've done 800M without a tank, and got a badge. ok it was horizontal but it's all the same isn't it
Apparently, an explosion in Rotherham recently killed a man. The police say there is no risk to the public, it's not terrorism, its not a gas explosion, the cause is being investigated.
So it seems an unknown something caused a fatal explosion but no worries its all safe.
The "odd fact" is now that the authorities can make pronouncements regarding public safety with zero idea about what's happening.
As opposed to their usual procedure?
