When I move the quick release up and down nothing happens, i.e. the brake pads don't move closer to or further away from the rim. The brake still works at the moment, but for lack of a better word, when I press the rear brake up front the lever is soft and has a lot of play in it. The cable is not worn and looks as if it still has plenty of life in it. Suggestions please.

Might need a drop of oil, flick the quick release up and pull the brake on see if that frees it.

That doesn't seem to have made a difference. The best way to describe it is that the quick release is very loose instead of its normal firm feel. It also seems to be a problem that the brake is getting stuck on after I put the brake on.

Good work!. Drop of oil on each pivot when you check the bike over before a ride should keep them free.

I need to do mine and my sons this weekend.
It's certainly releasing now when I apply the brake which it wasnt before
