I tried again pedalling using the correct large front ring and smallest cog at back but there comes a point when pedalling without cable in...when the RD wants to shift.."ghost" shifting i beleive.

So b4 I try cable...i surely need to make the RD is stable in just the one gear set up....I have a checklist to try.....

Three suggestions for your 'journey':
  • The chain length looks OK but check it goes large-large and the cage is pointing at 4-5 o'clock.
  • Screw in the H limit screw: currently guide wheel too far to right.
  • Once you establish RD is or isn't OK, replace cable: that has started to unravel where it's clamped. (Save for use as FD cable.)

When you say large large...do u mean large front ring to smallest cog at back i.e.biggest gear? O4 large front ring to largest cog on cassette.

I screwed in h limi screw

What i notice happening is the chainb comes away from bottom jockey wheel after a few gentle rotatioations of pedals. So stays within its houwibg but is not on the wheel at all..... hence this causes the seizing up....

If all this happened after it got knocked then something got bent. You replaced the hanger, OK. If the chain is perfectly straight then that should be ruled out, providing that you have no stiff link, that can happen and has been mentioned up thread. So then that leaves the derailleur possibly being bent or the frame. If it was all OK before the event, the limit screws and the b-screw should need no adjustment as they would not cause what you are experiencing, IMHO.

I think because I regularly looked after my orude and joy, was a member if a cycling club, did regular maintenance, with any services after lots of miles booked into my lbs. Since I took the 2st hit from a car it did sent my confidence on the bike. I stopped regularly commuting 24 miles a day and my weekend spins of 25 to 50 or yhe idd 100 miler lsportive came to an end. Ive been lacking.....
No saying at all this is why I cant fix the issues I suppose my point being. If u was back in my groove. The 1st off I would have checked n checked again....but moving jobs I stopped cycling to work....lost my mojo but still love my bike !

I cant afford my lbs who rinsed me thr last time I took it for a service. Halfords I know is the antithesrisbofbevery proper cycling community but financially at the moment I just want to get back on my bike and want it to he safe!!

All your advice had been brilliant. But with no cable in why on earth would the RD want ro change gears....im not technically competent to get to route of problem even though im no div and can follow instructions... im disappointed as I really want to learn too.....but you guys n girls aren't here tk diagnisebthe problem .... which I k ow youd do in seconds.

You the the b screw is bent out of shape.. itcwill not screw out or in.....and I dont have a hacksaw. Pmus worries about damaging the thread and then havibg no h screw option at all......H A LF O....
