I don't know your size, but if you ride a 54cm frame grab THIS while you can. best £999.00 you'll ever spend IMO

If not, THIS is still available in a 56cm, still a great bike and you'll save £200 and still get 105

Last time I tried to order something from Westbrook it was out of stock even though the website clearly said othewise - they were very apologetic and helpful however. But yes a grand is good for the CAAD10

Anyone got an opinion on Sram Apex compared to Ultegra / 105 ?

The Canyon with Apex is only £719, and just over 8KG.
Shimano 105 version is also £719, and also just over the 8KG mark.

Might end up with some spare cash to splash on some kit, if the only marked difference is a few hundred grams.

You are already considering an all singing, all dancing, skinny, speedy roadbike?

I have Tiagra on one bike and Apex on another - I like them both equally. I am sure Ultegra is lovely but new parts are more costly to replace. SRAM rival meant to be good too - 105 equivalent...e.g. http://www.planet-x-bikes.co.uk/i/q/FBPXPRORIV12/planet_x_pro_carbon_rival_road_bike_2012 for another option

Are there any distinguishing features between Tiagra and Apex?

Ok, I know It's a common question, but in ready to upgrade my trusty Carrera.

I've got around a grand, and am looking for the following:

- Suitable for racing
- Minimum Shimano 105 or equivalent
- Less than 10KG, but preferably less than 9

And that's it really. I'm leaning towards a Ribble or a Boardman at present, but there's probably some gems I've not considered. Not a big fan of the Defy's aesthetics, so have all but ruled out.

Let's have it!

I recommend that you buy my old Raleigh Mustang MTB for a thousand pounds.^_^
It has something by Shimano on it I'm sure and what's left of it could possibly weigh less than 10 kilos.

The older I get, the faster I used to be ...
I am thinking very seriously about buying a Canyon for my n+1. The spec really impresses me - there is virtually nothing you would want to change - unlike most other brands around this price. Complete one-brand/model groupsets. Wheels are good, even saddle may be. Have no experience of the tyres, but they are not some cheap brand as often fitted. On the Ultimate ALs GP4000s come as standard on Ksyrium Elites.

The closest specced bikes I can find are at least £150 more than the Canyons.

I'll check what my LBS can do before ordering, but doubt they'll get anywhere close

Well I've not done many miles on each and I have zero idea about gearing, but they just work differently - SRAM works as double tap on a single lever under the brake lever, one tap for up, 2 for down. Tiagra has two levers to change, a smaller one for up and push the brake lever for up (well I think it's that way round).

The Canyon looks a good spec, although I do find the styling a bit uninspiring myself (but ditto for Boardmans and Specialized)
