I was on a Ferris coach driving through Paris and France en route to Spain for a holiday on the day it happened. We didn't get to Spain till the following day and after getting off the coach my first thoughts (after stretching my back and legs) was to look for a paper to catch up with the sports news. All you could see was wall to wall coverage of what happened. Seemed strange but all people talked about was Diana.

Was at my granny's that weekend. She came into the room and said "Princess Di's died". We watched the news a few minutes, got the facts and that was it far as we were concerned. A shame but the really wierd thing was the over-reaction. A few months later I was visiting an engineering workshop and one of the machinists had set up a shrine to Diana in the corner of the shed - most bizarre. There's a great scene in 'The Line of Beauty' where all this is portrayed, it was really well done and showed how wierd it all was.

Can't remember the funeral at all, must have gone for a walk or a bike ride. I thought at one point what fun it would have been to have ridden full tilt into the hundreds (thousands?) of wreaths laid outside Buck House (probably would have been lynched by weeping DM readers tho').
