Was in a similar position just before Christmas, but got gifted a second-hand one from my BiL, so don't need to worry any more.

Last one was bought in 1990. Writing to the manufacturer to complain about in-built obsolesence.

I recommend the cheapest. I've had them all, big small, posh, cheap, steam irons, steam generators, none of them last very long.
