Yes the Aldi/Lidl/Halfords cheap ones do work, my sister has one which I bought her and she uses it to clean her ebike regularly. IMHO though if you want one that's a breeze to use and never gets in the way of whatever task you're trying to accomplish, something like a Park Tools or Feedback Sports stand is the way to go.

Maintaining, fixing and cleaning bikes can be quite a theraputic thing to do I find and that's aided by a cycle stand which I never feel the need to curse at!
