Hi all,

Not posted for a while...

Anyhow am looking to get a single speed bike for my 7.5 mile (15 daily) commute.

Currently have a Ridgeback T1 2009 XL (and really like it)

Budget is around £400 to £600, will be getting this on the cycle to work scheme. Want the flat handle bars and the coasting gear rather than fixed gear.

Any recommendations from experience would be great.

Cheers

The trek districts are really very nice and in your price range. I have one of the drop bar versions that I use for winter training and they are fast but comfortable.

Belt drives are great for commuters, no oily crap on them and don't need to be cleaned, ever! The trek districts come with belt drives on higher models, have a look around.
Exactly... am fed up of the oily chain and the oily gear mechanism that seems to always not function as it should.. Will try and find the trek one.

I would excercise caution with belts as you need a split frame design.

They are clean and economical right up until the point they pack in.

The German company (above) give a 20k warranty on their belts

The Spesh Langster's are always popular, but pretty soulless and being a Spesh it means they're ten a penny IMO. I had a Langster Steel which was a nice ride, and a tad more elite than the alu version, but the finish wasn't great, in fact the chrome finish on the forks was shocking TBH.

More recently I had a 2012 FUJI FEATHER. I ran it as both a commuter and with some mods on the track as well. That was a great bike IMO, and I never saw another one which is always a good thing in my book.

Stock will be getting limited now on '12 bikes, but if the Fuji tickles your fancy then the 2013 Feather's are HERE

Nice one thanks... Like that.

Really want to get one of these 'Gates Drive Belt' cycles...
