The missus has some money to spend and would like to get a new vacuum cleaner. I have tried to convince her that Wiggle sell vacuum cleaners and I wouldnt mind helping her spend her money but she is having none of it.

She likes the idea of a Dyson animal, but am I right in assuming that the Dyson is the iPhone of the vacuum world in that good marketing has led to its popularity?

Any suggestions on what we could look at? Looking for a vacuum to tackle carpetted and hard floors.

Miele.
I switched to them after trying several flavours of Dyson and wouldn't go back. The build quality on the Miele cannot be beaten (imo). You do get a free 5 year guarantee with the Dyson's, but in my experience you will have to use it.

Numatic Henry or Hetty or Harry - don't have one, but seen so many office cleaners using them they must be good

Same: Now have a Miele Dog and Cat, which could be a pub but is in fact a vacuum cleaner.

Henry hoover.. they pick up anything and are bomb proof.
Far better then any other hoover out there imo, inc. Dysons.
The one in our office has lasted over 10 years with no problems, so much so that a few years ago we got one for home.

(Yes, pedants with keyboards poised, I know Hoover is a brand)

Ive just got a new family member called Henry for £90

My mum had one and I had one about 10years back though I lost it in work

Never had any problems with them, had Dysons in the past and I don't think they are any better, if they are any good at hoovering dogs I dont no?

Henry is the boss we have one now after many years suffering at the hands of Dyson etc Bagless aka gutless IMO. Although a tedious task and mainly why we now have laminate flooring the best thing for de furring was this..........

http://www.amazon.co.uk/FURminator-2013-De-Shedding-Tool-Dogs/dp/B004WJ0II4/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1380550994&sr=8-1&keywords=dog furminator

You wouldn't believe what this can pull from our rug even though it looks hair free to the naked eye. Also a proper decent bit of kit for actually de hairing the the dog btw. And a well cool name !

I've had a Dyson Animal for about five or six years. It was second hand when I bought it.
It's fab, we have a Labrador and previously a cat and the Dyson has been marvellous.
It's easy to use, never had any problems at all with it.

We have a Henry, and have recently upgraded to the one with the turbo function. The missus is still not happy with it though!
I've used many a Henry and it's a bit weak compared to the Miele. I think we got the Miele based on a Which report.

Cheers for all the recommendations. Does anyone have experience with the Numark Airo Brush designed for the Henry, particularly in use with Pet hair. If we can get this at @ £30.00, I could be in with a chance of getting a 42" telly :-)

Do I need to get the spray plaster out?

I have used the Henry with turbo brush, and the Miele Cat and Dog. The Meile is a bit better, but they're both pretty good.

We had one of them turbo brush jobbies but I had to take it apart after the first week (and then once a week afterwards) because it got clogged up with my hair.
