Just applied 7th patch to inner tube. I'm not particularly frugal, just can't be arse to get down Halfords at this time of night. How does 7 compare to others?

I've only got to about 3 or 4. I'm not the greatest patcher, and once a patch fails, I bin the tyre. I don't think I've done 7 robust patches in a row ever.

Virgin tubes on the bike at the moment not had a p yet!!! I'm not sure how many exactly but I use to BMX when I was at school and the amount of puncture kits I went through was unreal!

I had one tube that was about two years old with 9 patches, but over time the old patches started to fail so after replacing one I decided it was time for the tube to hit the bin!

Repair kits are not particularly cheap so I now don’t bother patching tubes but I am concerned about the waste. What I need is a bombproof way of patching but I haven’t found one yet :-(

And bulk buy patches by the 100 and tubes of glue off eBay. That makes things a lot cheaper than buying a puncture repair kit with six patches.

Ref method, Dogtrousers has it on the button. There's no luck involved in never having had a patch fail.

Just use a proper kit with rubber solution and take lots of care. Sand the area first. Apply solution and let dry. Apply patch and maintain pressure (a G clamp and a couple of bits of wood are good for this). I've never, ever had one fail. Maybe I've just been lucky.

Mind you I don't get many punctures. Only had one last year - and that was on New Years Day. And one the year before. The joy of Durano Plus.

I was nodding all the way through your post thinking “yep I do all that” right up to the g clamp point!! That is another level!
