I know war is horrible: I know millions died: I know there's loads of poignant letters; I know there's lots of heart-tugging poetry; I know the war-graves are photogenic and strikingly evocative...

...but I can't help thinking that the BBC are revelling in this anniversary.
Milking it for all its worth while conveniently ignoring that there are many wars since with horrendous levels of inhumanity and brutality. I've heard a few references today (not only by the BBC) that WW1 was a turning point in warfare and global strife.
Did they miss WW2, Rwanda, Korea, Vietnam, Iraq, Iraq the sequel etc.

I can't put my finger on it but there's something pompous about it.

I turned on to the Beeb earlier to find some weird tribal ceremony going on with William and Kate at the centre of it. I changed channels sharpish.

You probably need to elaborate your point if you expect a proper response.

I think it's worth commemorating and remembering, and i take my hats off to those who actually 'go' and commemorate. But the idea of watching it on TV would make me feel like a spectator... so the coverage is not for me. But for others I expect it's essential viewing, so the Beeb is serving them and not me on this occasion. I can live with that thanks to being able to turn it off.
