Repair or replace

My beloved garmin edge 705's battery has kharked it.

I called Garmin and they quoted me £81 to replace it. They also have the newer Garmins in my catalogue that I could pay for over a year, so I put it to you: repair or replace?

Buy a battery online and replace it yourself or take it to one of those high street watch repair booths.

For what they cost it's worth having a go yourself, how hard can it be.

I don't own one of those twatnav thingies so I've no idea how hard it will be but like you, I was loathe to spend a ridiculous sum of money having the battery changed on my iPod Nano so I went online, studied the instructions and bought a kit and battery for £11.

NEVER AGAIN! It was a flippin' nightmare trying to get the back off and having to un-solder then re-solder three tiny wires. By the end of it my fingers were sore and my eyes squiffy from squinting at the damned thing close up. It worked though!

Done the garmin battery DIY myself, works a treat. I have also removed the battery completely and plumbed the devices into the Di2 power source

Do I need to do things like soldering crap? If so, will have to use my school chums to get me in the engineering lab.

Apple don't make life easy for you. The original ipod was b*****d.

It isn't always so difficult. Some devices use a plug and socket to the battery instead of a soldered connection.
