Had a completely pointless close pass last night. I reckon <1ft away and >20mph speed difference. Caught up with the driver at the lights, and gave him an stare. He wound down the window, so I had a little chat. Basically he said admittemd the close pass but he didnt hit me so it was ok. When I pointed out I might swerve for pothole he tells me he plays ping pong and has fast enough reactions!

I had my helment cam on and so probably have some reasonable footage although it was dark and I havent viewed it yet.

Question: is there anything I can do that will make a difference? Can you report to police and will they take any action? Maybe just put it on youtube?

Where was teh close pass? I'd upload the footage to YouTube so we can have a look, but that certainly sounds like one I would report to Roadsafe.

*&%$^!!!! :wacko::cursing:

I'd feel like taking a razor-sharp machete and asking "Do you mind me trying to decapitate you with this? You ought to be able to dodge it because, let's face it, you are pretty handy at ping pong!"

I suspect that he might suddenly make a more realistic assessment of his avoidance prowess ...

Happens all the time. My favourite was the guy who when I inevitably caught him at the lights looked confused and then blurted out '' I never touched ya!'' I guess in his mind it's only a close pass if it results in an actual collision

I know it happens a lot and usually I let it pass
(ba-dum!)

But this was exceptional in that I see only a few such close passes a year. I'll review footage tonight and upload if I have anything

Where did the incident take place? A few police forces allow you to report youtube footage by an online form.

With a close pass video it is best to have some part of the bike/rider in shot to give a reference point, not essential but it helps.

I have got into the habit of really overtly acknowledging those who give me space time etc with a big right hand as they are about to pass - same route every day and I think (daftly) that each day there are more giving me space etc due to my lovely nature!!!! Perhaps I will organise a summer love in for us all on the Penshaw route to Sunderland!
No matter - the psychology can work!
I think your nature leemo (cool and calm) will hopefully get him to think.

Crap car as well - let him know that!

So you have brought this incident to the attention of the "Most Modern, Venerable and Worshipful Guild of Video Cockwombles of This Parish". If you were to poll all members of this forum - some will say
'Yes', others 'No' and some 'Maybe'. Report it to the police and try to get him charged with attempted murder!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Are you looking for peer approval? You say you may have to swerve to avoid a pothole - my only comment is if you use 'Eyeballs MkI, seeing, for the use of', these will help you to detect potholes in good time.

Had the guy apologised and admitted his error - then perhaps the point is made and leave it at that

However his whole attitude that his reactions are good enough for him to drive n an inconsiderate and dangerou way stinks and THAt is why ou should certainly report it.

( I had a similar situation once and when I pointed out that 3 feet was the recommendation I was told..... That is cr@p, I'm a racing cyclist so I know just how much room you really need!

He was also reported)
