Hi
Just reading the Canarian weekly news, a disgruntled guest got a bit upset with people claiming sun beds at stupid o'clock in the morning by leaving their towels on them and then not using them for most of the day.
He decided to get his own back by throwing itching powder over the towels and then waited for the inevitable results.
It's a bit extreme but I can fully understand his frustration on the matter.
I've been there my self watching holiday makers sneaking to the poolside sun loungers at 5 in the morning to claim the best positioned beds to not being used until the afternoon.🤣
Oh the joys of the good old package holidays abroad

Any good hotel will police this. Especially as there have been court cases in Europe making travel companies pay compensation for beds being reserved.

We stopped in a very nice hotel in Barbados where people used books to try and reserve sun loungers. When I asked a member of staff he suggested I put all the books in the reception where guests could loan books. I did that and used the desired loungers, nothing said by the other guests, but it made us happy knowing we annoying someone.

In the 1980s there was a story in the newpapers about German tourists in Spain reserving sunbeds with towels. Some British tourists threw the towels into the swimming pool and then rearranged the sunbeds into the shape of a swastika.

Can you imagine being one of the sun bed hoggers. You arrive to your lounger, slap on the sun cream and then settle down on the laced itching powdered towel.
You would be sweaty and covered in sun cream and that powder would probably stick to you like poop to a blanket 😲

What's even more stupid about this situation is people trying to reserve their spot in the sun for some planned sun exposure, followed by the inevitable higher risk of skin cancer. No, sun screen only reduces that risk, it doesn't remove it.

I'm glad to have never been on one of those holidays - not my idea a holiday to have struggles over sunbeds

Yes I'd rather be doing something/visiting somewhere.

I just don't 'get' it and the same goes for a beach - The last time I was on a beach, other than the rockpools, I was bored stupid, but had to wait for people, so couldn't leave.
I'd also forgotten my sunglasses, meaning I was half blinded (I have blue eyes so get dazzled easily), which didn't help! 🤦‍♂️🙄
