What about driver one threatening you?
The low grade thuggery is worrying, the profound ignorance of the law is worse, imo, and has been ignored.

Matthew,

HAve you tried a completely different approach??? How about suggesting that you meet in the offices with one of the 'trainers' or instructors - whatever they are called - and 'walk through' the HC (re cycling ) and more importantly, a copy of the salient sections of Cyclecraft? If you were to walk through some of the rationale behind Primary and Secondary vs riding in the gutter etc, it may really make a difference?

You could even offer to take him/her out on a bike and ask them to ride through pinch points amongst traffic etc? Get them to ride properly in the gutter vs Primary at junctions and especially roundabouts?

Even simply chatting through with some paper and a pen may make a massive difference????

That is the route I would go rather than emails and complaint letters at your stage - i.e. living there and seemingly getting to know them and every professional driver locally!

I have already sent the response email. However, what you say does make a lot of sense. Whether or not the company would accept my offer is another thing. They do seem open to change though.

Never mind trying to get them out on bikes, that's unlikely to happen. Instead, just show them this video by Lothian Buses on how to drive around cyclists.

The only thing that I missed in that pretty good video was mention (from the cyclist's PoV) about Primary and Secondary positioning and why! There was a chance when it was pointed out that staying left is NOT always an invitation to pass.... Other than that - someone seems to be approaching the problem from the RIGHT angle

At least they didn't tell you to not trespass on bus company property.
They don't own either the public highway or the bus staion. So he wasn't on company property.
Point worth noting, said by one of the drivers. One doors width is all they are allowed to give. Given that the doors open inwards, how much actual room does that "doors width" cover?

Matthew, like a freshly felled fruit tree, I'd let it lie now.

You got cross, chased the guy down, elicited some ill-tempered and ignorance-ridden burblings from ill-educated and boorish types.

You posted your anger online. You posted a email to the company.

They replied.

I'd let it lie now.

Hugely entertaining for those of us with a touch of the troll about us, but this is going very soon to become tiresome even for the serious-minded and it will avail you precisely nought

Yeah roll over and let them get away with it.

Matthew keep going. Personally if that was me I wouldnt have gone to the lengths you have. You have proved from direct action you can at least achieve something. If we all did the same who knows what we could achieve. Nice letter, and well done

I think you are now getting obsessive with this issue.

Dear Sir

The enclosed clip of a cyclist's encounter with two of your employees may have already been brought to your attention. The clip raises some serious questions, leaving aside the threats and abuse, either your employee with the sunglasses has been trained by your company to believe that cycle lanes are mandatory or he has managed to complete his entire Arriva training without being disabused of this fallacy. May I ask if the former that this is raised as a serious issue to be addressed across the entire Arriva training programme, and if the latter he is quickly informed that he is dangerously ignorant of road traffic law? I share the roads with Arriva drivers and and disappointed that someone who has presumably obtained a Passenger Carrying Vehicle licence at one of your Driving Standards Agency approved training centres can be so profoundly unaware of the guidance issued to bus drivers with regard to vulnerable road users, despite your assurance of your drivers gaining the Driver’s Certificate of Professional Competence.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Best regards

You should try to get the word 'notwithstanding' in there somewhere.

Ha! Touche.

Nobbut seriously, how can he have gone through all the training they boast about on their website and still come out with that load of old trousers, it's like saying it's ok to run people over on zebra crossings if they have red trousers on.

Hang on..
